Masters Open is a new mix & match program designed for experienced or Masters rowers who want to improve technical skills and/or general fitness. This program offers five flexible coached sessions per week, three in the morning and two in the evening. Rowers may attend as many or as few sessions as they desire, based on individual goals. The AM sessions will primarily focus more on sweep rowing, while the PM sessions will focus more on sculling; however, both may be offered in all sessions. Participants will have the opportunity to compete (see regatta listing) in Virginia and elsewhere. NOTE: “Competitive Rowing” program already includes access to Masters Open sessions.
An experienced RRC Coach oversees practices and any competitions. At least one day a week will be devoted to race training and preparation.
Club Saturdays is a pilot program, open to all Rivanna Rowing Club members, without additional program fees. The aim is to provide a sociable/fun activity for the entire club (mixed skill levels) with coached supervision on 6 different Saturdays. A mix of sculling and sweep boats will be boated (i.e. assigned) with advance sign-up encouraged for planning purposes. Practices will be racing focused and may include some regatta-like sprints on the reservoir.
